Strong and Purty at Thirty

Congratulations to the Parental Unit! This weekend marked their 30th anniversary. I'm sure when P2 asked Mama Mia to marry him (for the 2nd time) they had no idea what was to come.

But I'm sure even after 6 children, 8 cars, 3 states, 4 jobs, 1 bad perm, 3 different lengths of sideburns, bell bottoms going out of style, bell bottoms coming back in style, bell bottoms going back out of style, and 30 years later, they'd do it all over again.

This got me thinking. I'm 28. Say I got married tomorrow...which is highly unlikely...but pretend anyway. I'll be 56 before I've been married as long as I've been single. I'll be 78 when I hit the big Five Oh. My Golden Anniversary will be the year 2057. What do you suppose the world will be like then? I'm sure gold will have gone by the wayside years before. Perhaps the newest rage will be hybrid jewelry made from filtered electricity, dust from Saturn's surface, hair from a live phoenix, and organic rock.

Organic Rock. You may laugh but you probably laughed at bottled water when it was first introduced too. Just wait. One of these days rocks will be mass produced in China and you'll be hard pressed to get an organic cluster of sedimentary deposits.

Of course, I probably won't get married tomorrow. This means you still have time to collect rocks to sell later. Organic Rocks. It's gonna be big!

A couple of years ago, I calculated how old I'd be when my kids graduated high school, assuming I met my wife the following day. That didn't happen.

And just so we're clear, bell bottoms are out again? :)

I haven't worn bell bottoms since '97 and since I am what you would consider on the "cutting edge of fashion", if I'm not wearing it, you shouldn't be either.

Congrats to your Folks

Good luck with your marriage tomorrow

Are organic rocks like pet rocks? I'm pretty sure some guys are still wearing bell bottoms...

I heard Thom Carter is available for marriage tomorrow. Only if you're blonde. He is rejecting brunettes now.

my parents just celebrated their 25th this weekend! yay for august weddings.

i don't think bell bottoms are exactly passe right now, but skinny jeans are definitely the latest trend. flares, i believe, will always be fashionable. we ladies just look good in them!

Bell Bottoms will have come and gone another two times.

I love hearing happy endings..

I think about this alot. I'm 41, there's no way I can ever be married to someone for THAT long.

true religion jeans still kindof flare out but they are moving towards the skinny /slim fit. So I guess you're right. Really though, I am going to start a blog just so I can set you straight on what you should be wearing.

I love those old photos.

I think about how old I'll be when my children leave for college... ANCIENT.

You're parents anniversary post totally beat mine.

I think about how much older I will be when my kids are my age (providing I get married tomorrow and have kids 9 months later) and it makes me a little sad. Just because my mom got started at 19, and I still see her as young and fun.

I'm afraid I'm going to be old and tired.

My Dad had was given a nickname that roughly translates to "Hermit" as he didn't get married until he was almost 30. Foolish me, I always knew I'd beat him. 41 years later, my folks are still going strong. I may be able to tie them on that score as infinity equals infinity (if you see what I mean).

And no! no! no! Bell-bottoms should never be in fashion, because they are never in style. Take it from someone who grew up in the 1970s, the decade that style forgot.
