Hyponatremia

I introduced you to G.A.B. on Monday. The instructions said my boyfriend would grow if fully submerged in water. Being a sweet girlfriend, I placed Gabby in the tub one evening while I ran some errands. I came back a few hours later - not much had changed. That's when I realized the process took 3 - 10 days. I relocated Gabby to a vase - hoping the same vase would later be filled with flowers from him as a token of reciprocated love.

Thursday passed.

Friday passed.

Saturday was Day 4. Gabby was looking great. I took some time that morning to talk with and learn more about him. I discovered his great grandfather, Bubba Licious, was from Texas - so we talked about that awhile. Unfortunately for us, I had to cut the conversation short. I had plans to spend the day in Atlanta and knew he needed more time to soak. I said goodbye and plunked him back in the vase. I reminded him that I would be home later in the evening and insisted we take some photos together.

*sniff

If only I'd known that drinking was still a temptation. If only I'd known he'd barely been 'on the wagon' since November. If only I'd known he hadn't been attending his H2O Anonymous meetings...

Hi honey, I'm home!

Honey, did you hear me? Hello?

Gabby?

GABBY?!?!?

G.A.B.

Hmmm, what's this?
It's a birthday present to me from Little Boy Blue.
Yes...we do have wrapping paper. I guess he just didn't want to use any.

It's something red. It looks like a little man.
A 'Grow a Boyfriend' to be exact ~ G.A.B. for short. Oh, and he is short.

Real funny. Reeeeeeeallllll funny.

Mm hmm. Just as funny as the 'Grow a Bling' Julia Gulia gave me a few years ago.

Family, is my birthday a joke to you?

Honestly, it's like I'm the only serious one around here.

Mmmffpphfftt.......

Hey, Leggo my Lego

Did I mention Little Boy Blue turned 10 last week? I didn't? Shame on me. His birthday and mine are only five days apart with Valentines in the middle. Talk about busy!

Now that I have a chance to tell you more about Little Boy - and since I finally downloaded the pictures from his party - he loves legos. Loves, loves, loves legos. Using the blocks for his theme, he completely planned his birthday party from the red, blue, and yellow plates to the "Guess the number of Lego blocks in the jar without going over" game. Mama Mia even proved her ultimate coolness by constructing a Lego pinata from a cereal box and plastic cups.

So, in honor of Little Boy Blue's birthday, and since he really enjoys math, I thought I'd share his party with you using an arithmetic problem.

1 birthday boy
+ several sugar cookies(his face is going to freeze like that one day. For all I know, it already has.)
+ 1 birthday pie
+ 1 pinata
+ lots of pinata candy(ever wonder why we call him Little Boy Blue?)

= 1 very, very,
very tired Birthday Boy!Aww, he looks so sweet. Must be all the sugar he ate.

6 Degrees...kind of

There will be a slight change to this blog on Monday. It might be too subtle to notice unless you really pay attention. Those with keen eyes might notice future posts written with a new level of maturity. Okay...maybe not the content so much but more so the age of the auther since I'll turn 29 this weekend.

If that news wasn't exciting enough on it's own, guess who shares my birthdate ~ Michael Jordan and Paris Hilton. That's right - my birthday is lumped together with a basketball legend and a socialite. Thinking we must have something more in common than just an Aquarius status, I determined to find just how similar we really are.

Happy Birthday Michael and Paris!

And Happy (late) Valentine's Day to everyone else.

Reeeeeally Early

Jordan, the temp worker here at the office, celebrated his 23rd birthday three weeks ago. Since our office loves any reason to eat sugar on the company’s dime, birthdays are events! For some reason Jordan’s birthday was postponed. First he wasn’t working on his actual birthday so we waited until the next week which was Thanksgiving. Holiday weeks are short already and we worked quickly to finish on time. The birthday celebration was postponed again. This week is halfway over. No plans have been made for Jordan’s birthday since Jim is turning 80 soon. All focus is on Jim’s big day. Yesterday, as Jordan and I were going over some last minute details for the caterer (80 really is a big deal), the conversation indicated a bit of resentment.

Me: Jordan, we need a table for the cake.
Jordan: Oh. He’s getting a cake, huh.
Me: Yes. Why wouldn’t he?
Jordan: Oh I don’t know. Sometimes people don’t get cakes.
Me: Well, he is turning 80. Of course we are going all out.
Jordan: Is it going to be a cookie cake?
Me: No. Why would you think that?
Jordan: Oh, no reason. That’s what I would have wanted if it were my birthday. You know…
Me: *gasp* Jordan! We never celebrated your birthday! I’m so sorry.
Jordan: Oh it’s okay. It was probably my only birthday I’ll have with the company. No big deal.

So Jordan, today is your day. Happy 30th! Don't think of this card as three weeks late but rather several years early.

Julia Gulia

Today Julia Gulia turns 22! In honor of her big day, I thought I'd let her know how much I love her: LOTS!

On an unrelated note, Julia Gulia has LOTS of purses. Some in the closet, some in my closet, some in the garage, some in the basement...

HEY! I like JG "LOTS"; she has LOTS of purses...

Allow me to get purse-onal and share just a few reasons why I love Julia Gulia!

She is random. She and I once had an argument as to who was more random. She won. Hmpf.

Her laugh.

Her hair. Seriously, it always looks great.

Her clothes. She is so stylish. I especially like her clothes that fit me.

She gives great back scratches.

Her taste in music.

Her hugs!

Her random obsession with Harrison Ford. She even bakes a cake on his birthday!

She is driven and goal oriented.

Dramatic. This can be good, bad, or entertaining.

She has some classic "blonde" moments. Don't we all...

Very stylish eye. She loves anything eccentric. (as you can see from some of these purses).

Makes great cookies

Passionate about life. She wants the most out of every situation.

Never a dull moment when she's around!

Bargain shopper! (This purse is an eBay victory).

Actually has her head on straight. I don't worry about her - she will do great things.

Very, very generous.

Her smile.

Fun road trip buddy.

Whew! That was long. Of course, there are more reasons why I love her - and more purses. Maybe next year I'll document my love using her shoes. Then we'll really be here all day!

Happy Birthday Julia-Gulia. I love you (and all of your baggage)!

The Pops that Rocks

Yesterday marked another birthday for my pops. Happy Birthday P2!
Although he's known life without me, I've never known life without him and for this, I'm grateful. He is the type of man that teaches by example and when necessary, uses words.

A fond memory I have is watching Star Trek with him. I know, I know, we were dorks. What makes me even sillier is that anytime my dad called from work and I happened to answer, I would give the phone to Mama Mia and say, "It's Captain Picard - for you." Oh yes, I am that dork.

Growing up, people would tell me I looked like P2.

Really???

...I did have similar eyebrows before I discovered tweezers. Is that what they were referring to?
Hmm...maybe we are related. P2! Are those your fingers making bunny ears? Seriously, some people! I would never do that. *ahem.

P2, the past 28 years of my life have been great with you as my dad. Here's to at least 28 more birthdays to come! Love ya!

Double Talk

Today Johnny-Cherie turns 15! Oh my goodness. One more year and she'll be driving...

The other day she and I were relaxing on my bed. I was browsing through a magazine while Johnny played a game on my cell phone. I saw an advertisement for some ridiculously overpriced skin-care products. I read the description to Johnny and then told her the price.

She looked up from the phone and exclaimed, "Are you serious?! You would have to be stupid, rich, or (pause) a celebrity to pay that!"

I told her there was no need to be redundant.

Oh well.

Johnny-Cherie, Happy Birthday, I love ya! (pause) Happy Birthday, I love ya!

TheDeanInc

TheDeanInc turns 26 today! Happy Birthday!

I personally don't remember the day he was born but I'm told I placed some flowers from a bathroom vase next to his head the first time I saw him. He and I became buddies. We always were together and conjured up games only understood by us. Even though I'm two years older, I looked up to him quite a bit while growing up.

Now-a-days we don't get to hang out very often since we live a few hours away: 2 hour time zone and 4 hour plane trip. Despite the distance, I still look up to him. TheDeanInc has incredible talent when it comes to computers or anything electronic. He is especially fond of Photoshop. I enjoy his pictures - it helps me keep up with his recent adventures.

Here's his search for the Holy Grail.

Here he is competing in the "Anyone can be the Governor of California" body-building contest.

And here he is returning from the war.

As you can see, TheDeanInc keeps busy. Bro, you amaze me still. In fact, you taught me all I know about technology. I decided I would pull out all the stops for your birthday and send you $100. What's your fax number?

Mama Mia

Tomorrow is Mama Mia’s birthday. She’ll be worth a quarter, two dimes, a nickel, and two pennies. She’s done quite a bit with those 52 years but most of her greatest achievements fall under work done during the past 28 years with the title of “Mother”.

The fact is, she is an amazing mom. I might be biased but I do think she's the best around.

In my younger years, those years in which I somehow knew more than Mama Mia ever would, I found so many opportunities to critique. I would have made dinner differently. I would have raised my siblings better. My yard would have looked nicer. I surely would have kept the house tidier. Mama Mia was wiser than I realized though. Instead of arguing back, she would simply say, “Write it down, sign and date it.” I complied.

One example involved our “lived in” home. I was frustrated that our house so often looked unkempt. After another snotty comment, I obliged Mama Mia’s request and wrote, “I will always have a clean house after I have children.” She coyly took the signed paper and stashed it with the other statements previously written.

Several years later, I was babysitting four children, two of which were twins. I was frazzled after just three hours of juggling diaper changes, feedings, books, children, taking phone messages, and cleaning up after little ones. I looked around the cluttered living room and remembered the promise I’d sworn in such haste. On my own, I prepared a disclaimer for Mama Mia explaining, "If I have twins, the note about a clean house no longer holds true.”

I don’t know why I limited the clause to twins. I’ve tended enough children now to realize just one can demand my attention louder than a messy room. Guess Mama Mia has every right to say “I told you so!” She also has a collection of oaths penned by my hand to refer to when the opportune moment arrives.

Today I have another statement. This one needs no retraction:
